Rohit Sharma’s Test career had a fairytale start. He received his maiden Test call-up for the famous series against West Indies in 2013 which will always be remembered for being the legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s last international series. And while the spotlight was firmly on Tendulkar, Rohit managed to steal if for some time because of his batting exploits.

He scored centuries in both the Tests as India thrashed West Indies to give Tendulkar a fitting farewell. But those two centuries in the first two Tests were not the precursor of the things that were to follow. Sadly, even five years after that memorable series, he has not managed to cement his place in the team. It is undoubtedly an embarrassing situation for a player who has three double centuries in ODIs, four centuries in T20Is as well as a triple-century in first-class cricket.

But time and again, Rohit has failed to show that he has the right temperament for the Tests. Earlier this year, he was dropped from the side after his woeful performance in South Africa. Consequently, he missed the home game against Afghanistan, away series to England and the home series against West Indies.

However, his stunning form in white-ball cricket helped him earn a lifeline in Tests as he earned a recall for the ongoing series in Australia. But so far, he has miserably failed to justify his selection. In the first innings of the Test, he had got the start. He had hit two fours and three sixes during his 37-run knock but a moment of madness saw him playing a rash shot and getting dismissed. And his miserable run in the longest format of the game continued in the second innings too.

He came out to bat at the fall of Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket. India were well on top and all Rohit needed to do was give support to Ajinkya Rahane. However, he failed to do so and made his way to the pavilion after scoring just 1.

Tweet backfires:

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians were left red-faced after their skipper’s latest failure. The three-time IPL winners had posted a tweet, asking the fans to retweet it if they woke up to watch Rohit bat. But he departed right then for just 1, the franchise quickly deleted it. But not before fans took screenshots to troll them on Twitter.

Here is a screenshot of their deleted tweet:
