MS Dhoni faced a lot of flak on social media for his slow knock at Lord’s last night. While the top order failed to capitalize on the starts they got in a huge run chase, the lower order comprising Dhoni couldn’t keep up with the asking rate and the battle was lost well before the last man was dismissed. Once the likes of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina as well as Hardik Pandya got out in quick succession the chase was an uphill task for Team India.
Former Indian cricketer Murali Kartik who is associated as an expert for the series lauded Dhoni for achieving the 10,000-run mark in ODIs during the 2nd ODI. He asserted that in spite of the Indian top order’s fine performances, Dhoni consistently made runs at the low order. He further mentioned that adapting himself according to the situation has always been the wicketkeeper batsman’s forte and no one in the team has done it better.
Karthik tweeted: “Everyone talks about @msdhoni batting no. 6 & getting so many runs, does it mean our top order was fragile, no, but what the great man has done or shown not to the fans but to the team itself is the rock solid belief that whatever be the RR required I will hunt it regularly LEGENDARY.”

MS Dhoni yesterday entered the 10k runs club in ODIs. He became only the fourth Indian to enter the elite club which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Moreover, he became the only lower order batsman to reach the 10000-run landmark in ODIs. Also, the fifth fastest to do so.
Interestingly, he also completed 300 catches in ODIs yesterday. Dhoni became only the fourth wicketkeeper to achieve the feat and found a place in the list that includes all-time greats. However, all these records came on a day when India ended up losing the game. England managed to post a scintillating total of 322/7. Their bowlers performed well as the hosts won by a spectacular margin of 86 runs. The series is now leveled at 1-1.
