As per the recent reports, Murali Vijay has been named as the replacement for Dinesh Karthik in the Tamil Nadu squad for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2017. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) confirmed the same in the recent media release. Dinesh Karthik, who was initially named in the squad, had to pull out of the tournament citing personal reasons.
Apparently, Karthik will no longer be the part of the squad since he has to attend his sister-in-law’s wedding ceremony. He played the first match for Tamil Nadu against Karnataka on January 29. During the match, Karthik hit a flurry of boundaries to see his side win the match. He scored 45 off just 33 balls on the day and was also involved in a mid-pitch collision with teammate Baba Aparajith in the match.
Now, Murali Vijay is all set to replace him in the side and will have to play a major role for the Tamil Nadu team. Earlier this season, Vijay and senior bowler Ravi Ashwin had chosen not to be a part of Tamil Nadu team during the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy. It will be interesting to see how Vijay fares up after coming up from the injury. From the team’s point of view, Tamil Nadu have the services of Narayan Jagadeesan, who will be the wicket keeper in the upcoming fixtures.
