Bangladesh folded up just for just 90 in the last innings of the first Test on Day 5. The visitors were not able to put up a fight against the home team as they handed a 333-run win to South Africa. After the defeat, Mushfiqur Rahim seemed very disappointed with his team’s efforts as they put up a horrid show when a lot was expected from the enthusiastic bunch.

Team is ashamed

The Bangladeshi skipper admitted that his team is ashamed of their efforts. He said that he had not seen Bangladesh play so bad in a session for a long time now. Mushfiqur lamented the fact that their batsmen were not able to fulfill their potential and looked clueless.

“After a long time, I saw a session where we lost even before being lost. I really don’t know why it happened. It is disappointing because I really forgot when we batted in this manner. You can lose a match in many ways but we have the ability to bat for two sessions,” Mushfiqur told reporters after the end of the day.

South Africa must be considering themselves lucky to have got the chance to bat first in spite of losing the toss. Musfiqur admitted that his team failed to judge the conditions and blamed that failure for his decision to field first.

“All of us took this decision (to bowl first). We didn’t know much about South African wickets, so it was hard for us to predict. We practised on totally different wickets. On any flat wicket, the help for the bowlers stays for the first two hours. If you think about what will happen in the fourth innings and then get bowled out for 100 in the first innings, it becomes difficult,” he added.

The wicketkeeper-batsman blamed his bowlers for not bowling in the right areas in the first innings.  “It must have been a flat track but you could have bowled in different areas. No matter how flat the wicket remains, if you want to take any advantage, it has to to be in the first two hours of the opening day,” the skipper concluded.
