Mushfiqur Rahim posts emotional message for teammate Shakib Al Hasan
After accepting the charges, Shakib Al Hasan admitted he felt ashamed for his action.
Mushfiqur Rahim posted a heartfelt message for his friend and teammate Shakib Al Hasan after the Bangladesh ace all-rounder was banned by ICC for breaking anti-corruption code. The former Bangladesh captain has been banned from all cricket for two years, one of them suspended, after admitting three charges under the anti-corruption code.
The ICC announced its verdict on Tuesday (October 29). The governing body of the game also confirmed if Shakib satisfied the conditions of the suspended part of the sanction, he would be free to resume international cricket on October 29, 2020. The all-rounder faced the punishment for not reporting approaches from a bookie in relation to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe Tri-Series during 2018 as well as the Indian Premier League.
Soon after the ICC announced the news, Mushfiqur took to Instagram to pay tribute to his star teammate. Posting an old picture of himself and Shakib embracing each other after a defeat, Mushfiqur recalled how he and Shakib started their journey in the game together. He also threw his support behind Shakib, writing, “Age level.. international… over 18 years of playing cricket together… very sad to even think about playing without you on the field. Hoping that you comeback soon like a champ. You always have my support, and whole of Bangladesh. Stay strong In Sha Allah”
Shakib appeals for support
After accepting the charges, Shakib Al Hasan admitted he felt ashamed for his action. He admitted that he was at fault for not reporting the approaches to the ICC. Shakib also pledged to work with the ACSU in their endeavor to end corruption from the game. At the same time, he stressed he needs support to get back to the game strongly.
“The way the Bangladesh Cricket board, fans, government and media got behind me is really amazing,” he said. “If the fans, BCB continue to lend their support to me, I will definitely come back strongly in cricket when the ban ends.
“I am sad that I have been banned from a sport that I love the most. But, for not informing about the illegal proposal to ICC and ACSU, I am accepting the punishment. ICC and ACSU rely on the cooperation of cricketers to avoid corruption but I could not help the ICC and ACSU properly. Like any other player, I too want cricket to be free from corruption. And to keep the upcoming cricketers away from any corruption, I will work with ACSU as best as I can,” he added.
