Bangladesh Cricket Board has served Mushfiqur Rahim a show-cause notice after the veteran wicketkeeper’s outburst following his omission from the Pakistan T20I series. The selectors had said that the Bogra-born cricketer was rested, considering the four Tests against Pakistan and New Zealand that are part of the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle.

Mushfiqur didn’t have the best of campaigns in the T20 World Cup 2021 after which he was sidelined. The veteran had poor outings even in Bangladesh’s bilateral home series prior to the multi-nation mega event in Oman and the UAE. He will now have to attend a hearing where he might be asked to put forth an explanation behind his reaction.

“He will have to face a hearing as he has spoken against the selection panel,” a member of the selection panel, on request of anonymity, was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.

Everyone should say the truth, said Mushfiqur Rahim

Earlier, Mushfiqur asked the selectors to stick to the truth rather than beating around the bush. He stated that the panel should have communicated matters to him in a clearer way.

”Certainly [they should say that I am dropped] because everyone should say the truth because nothing is bigger than the team and I am just an ordinary member,” Mushfiqur had said.

”The performance goes up and down and everyone should be judged by performance and fitness. They could have easily said that we are thinking something else and not considering you in this series and if you can perform then…

”If they had said it like this then I would have felt it much better that at least they have shown some respect,” he added.

Mushfiqur didn’t join his national teammates for the preparatory camp before the T20I series. Instead, he worked out in the gym, indicating that he may not be picked for the white-ball series. He also found it hard to comprehend why the selectors don’t say things on his face as he had paid a price before Bangladesh’s series against Australia.

Mushfiqur wasn’t picked for the series as he was not able to start a mandatory 10-day quarantine on time. He remains one of Bangladesh’s leading run-scorers across formats.
