Mushfiqur Rahim to stay under observation for injured hand

Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim will be kept under observation for the next two days for an injured hand. Rahim had sustained an injury to his right thumb and left index finger whilst batting in the first innings. The injury happened on the second day of the play. The Bangladeshi skipper is now expected to be under observation of the medical experts for at least 48 hours.

As per the reports in ESNPcricinfo, an x-ray examination was done on the injured hand prior to the commencement of the play on the third day of the Test. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media manager, Mr. Rabeed Imam, has said that the Bangladesh team physio has confirmed that there is no obvious fracture to his hand.

However, Mushfiqur Rahim was seen in severe pain on the day and was taken the hospital soon after. Due to pain in hand, the movements of the hands will be restricted, confirmed the team physio. The media manager further answered the queries pertaining to Rahim’s involvement in the match. Rabeed Imam mentioned that Rahim will bat in the second innings only if the need and situation demands. He will definitely not take the wicketkeeping gloves.

On the day 3 of the first Test against New Zealand, it was Imrul Kayes who took the role of the wicketkeeper. Imrul did a fair job as the keeper and pocketed two catches on the day. Incidentally, this is not the first instance when Mushfiqur Rahim has been injured on the New Zealand tour this season. Earlier, during the ODI series, he had injured his hamstring. The injury had forced him to stay out of action from 2 ODIs and three T20Is that followed after the first ODI.

Talking about the match, Rahim played an integral part in the first innings as Bangladesh posted a massive 595 on the board. Rahim scored a brilliant 159 and shared a marathon 359 run stand with Shakib Al Hasan during his stay at the crease.
