After plucking a wicket in the very first over there was a phase where Bangladeshi bowlers had a tough time with the Indian batsmen hitting them around the park in the afternoon sun at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. They found success after 181 runs when Cheteshwar Pujara edged one to the keeper. Virat Kohli walked in at 4 and was as fluent as he has always been.

He took no time to get going and the Bangladeshis sensed trouble again. In what appears to be a desperate move skipper Mushfiqur Rahim decided to take a chance with the DRS after the umpire turned them down. It was the 62nd over of the game, Team India was placed well at 223/2 with Murali Vijay batting on 101 and Virat on 31. The skipper defended a Taijul Islam delivery but the bowling team went for an appeal.

The umpire didn’t feel there was enough to give it out and wasn’t interested at all. After a bit of a discussion, Mushfiqur asked him to raise the appeal to the third umpire and check if the decision was correct. TV umpire CB Gaffaney needed just one replay to be convinced.

It was a tossed up delivery from the left-arm spinner pitched on middle and leg, Virat in textbook style had his front foot forward reached to the pitch of the ball and defended it with an angled bat.

While everything appeared pretty normal as it happened the point Bangladesh first appealed and then used the DRS on a ball that hit the dead middle of the bat was understandable. This was not the first time, earlier in the morning they all went up for a caught behind appeal against Pujara while the ball was miles away from the bat and also contemplated taking the DRS then as well.
