Mustafizur Rahman set to miss the start of BPL 2017
The Kings will play the second game on the opening day against Rangpur Riders.
Mustafizur Rahman is set to miss the first couple of matches for Rajshahi Kings in the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials said on Thursday (October 26). The left-arm seamer sustained a leg injury while playing football during the team warm-up in South Africa.
As a result, the left-arm pacer was sidelined for the ODI series against the Proteas. After an assessment of the injury today it was determined that Mustafizur had suffered a grade two strain. It has been 13 days since he sustained the grade-two lateral ankle injury. Rajshahi Kings team physician Debashish Chowdhury believes that the seamer will regain fitness in another two weeks of rest.
Complete rest
“He will need under complete rest for the next two weeks and that will allow him to have one-month lay-off that I believe will be enough for recovery. However, in the meantime he will be doing the rehabilitation program that began from Wednesday. After completing this last two weeks of his rehabilitation program he will need some more time to get back into bowling fitness and only then can we say when he can return to the field,” Chowdhury added, as reported by Cricbuzz.
Rajshahi acquired Mustafizur’s services after he missed the cut to be in the icon category after the Barisal Bulls team was removed from the competition for failing to put up the required appearance fee. ‘Fizz’ missed the last edition of BPL due to a shoulder injury.
The country’s top seven players have already signed up for seven franchises after they were allowed to choose their own teams by the BPL governing council. The fifth edition of BPL will start at Sylhet on November 4. The Kings will play the second game on the opening day against Rangpur Riders. A popular figure in Bangladesh, opener Tamim Iqbal is also likely to miss the entire edition due to the muscle injury he sustained in South Africa.
