Mustafizur Rahman won't get compensation from BCB after missing out on IPL 2020

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was all set to ply his trade in the on-going edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He, however, was denied from taking part in the tournament after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn’t give him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

Despite receiving offers from a couple of franchises, the Bangladesh international failed to take part in the cash-rich league. The left-arm pacer was reportedly approached by Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders but the BCB refused to give him NOC since Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka was on the cards.

But the tour was postponed once again after both the boards didn’t find a common ground on the quarantine period. The postponement of the series was a major blow for Mustafizur, who was allegedly offered a hefty sum of INR 1 crore by a franchise.

After Mustafizur’s lost opportunity, questions were raised if he’ll get some compensation by the BCB. A similar incident had happened back in 2015-16 when the pacer was denied the NOC to play in Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, he was also compensated with BDT Taka 30 lakh.

But this time, Mustafizur almost has no chance to get compensation, clarified Akram Khan, BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman. Khan also highlighted why the pacer was compensated after missing out on a PSL contract back in 2015-16.

“Because he had injury concerns, we did not allow him to go (PSL) and we tried to compensate him. This time it’s a different matter. He was picked by a team in the PSL while the negotiation was in the preliminary stage (IPL), and it is a fact that no team has picked him. We have not given him NoC for national interest, so there is very little chance of giving him any compensation,” Akram Khan said as quoted by BDcrictime.

Mustafizur’s last IPL stint was with Mumbai Indians in 2018, where he scalped seven wickets at an average of 32.85 and an economy of 8.36. He had more success while donning the Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey in two seasons (2016 and 2017). In 17 matches for the Hyderabad franchise, the 24-year-old took 17 wickets at 26.16 and an economy rate of 7.14.
