Muttiah Muralitharan gives away all his trophies to Sri Lankan charity organisation
Muralitharan represented the Sri Lankan side 133 Test matches, 350 ODIs, and 12 T20Is.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is a legendary name in the world of cricket. The bowling maestro, who holds the record for most number of wickets in Test match cricket, collected numerous awards and trophies during his illustrious career that lasted for almost two decades. During his 19-year career in international cricket, Muralitharan represented the Sri Lankan side 133 Test matches, 350 ODIs, and 12 T20Is. He scalped a cumulative total of 1347 wickets at the highest level of the game.
Recently, this wizard from the Emerald Isle decided to donate all his trophies and awards for a noble cause. As per the reports in Pakobserver.net, Muttiah Muralitharan has given away his Man of the Match awards, and other trophies, to the Foundation of Goodness.
The Foundation of Goodness is a premier charity organization in Sri Lanka and Murali has been associated with it for quite some time. He is one of the trustees of this organization. Kushil Gunasekara, Murali’s manager and another trustee of the foundation, confirmed this news recently.
“The Murali Museum (new adventure of the organisation) will be situated at the Foundation of Goodness’ Sports Academy premises in Seenigama. Murali has donated all of his trophies and memorabilia to be displayed for the public with the hope that it will help bring more attention to the Foundation and all of its good work,” trustee Kushil Gunasekera quoted.
Murali invites Sanga, Mahela to contribute as well
Muttiah Muralitharan has reportedly also approached his former teammates and Sri Lankan cricketing legends, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, to come up and display their awards and trophies at this new museum as well. The museum would have free entry for the public to get awed by the brilliance of it, and the patrons would have their option to contribute to the funds after their visits.
“Murali invited his fellow trustees Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene to also display their memorabilia at this museum for a worthy cause. The museum will have free entry to the public who can make a donation at the end of the visit if they please, especially when 60 predominantly overseas school teams from England and Australia visit the Foundation of Goodness every year, not forgetting our own school students who can view their hero’s milestones,” Kushil added further.
