Sinnasamy Muttiah, the father of spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, has come up with a complaint. Sinnasamy claimed that the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium was named after his son Muralitharan, but it no longers holds that name. He requested Mahanayake Thero of the Malwathu Chapter, Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero meet with the Sports Minister and intervene to sort out the issue.

Details:

Sinnasamy addressed the Sri Lankan media and mentioned that the stadium was initially named after the dramatic spin bowler during the former President’s tenure but the name has now been changed. He went on to say that the former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa had also made a Radio announcement that the stadium will be named after Muralitharan as a tribute to the bowler for picking up a mammoth 800 wickets in Tests.

Sinnasamy demanded a name change once again and requested it to be named after his son. He revealed that Mahanayake Thero had promised to look into the matter and solve it accordingly.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket is probably going through the worst phase ever after the complete whitewash against the visiting Indian side. They were outclassed in all formats and all the departments of the game as they failed to pick up a single victory in the series. The Indians were ruthless and dominant in their approach and finished the tour with a gigantic 9-0 win across all formats.

The fans have been left frustrated and we saw massive outrage from the crowd during the first and the 3rd ODIs against the Indians. The first ODI was marked by the fans surrounding the Sri Lanka Cricket office and hurling abuses at them. They also surrounded the team bus and shouted at it. During the third ODI, the fans interrupted the action on the ground by throwing water bottles when India were just 8 runs away from the victory.
