My business is to play for Pakistan without any arrogance and false pride: Shadab Khan
“My goal is to go about my business and play for Pakistan," the 18-year-old said.
The latest spin sensation from Pakistan, Shadab Khan has enjoyed a meteoric rise since his debut in international cricket. The Pindi boy put up an emphatic performance in the ICC Champions Trophy which concluded in July and carried on that sublime form in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) too. Heralded as one of the most promising spinners in the world by pundits, he has already donned the national outfit 12 times, picking up 20 wickets.
Apart from being part of the 2017 Champions Trophy winning squad, he recently also finished a successful stint in the Caribbean Premier League, guiding Trinbago Knight Riders to the finals win and claiming 12 wickets in just 8 fixtures. He has also been signed up by Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Brisbane Heat to represent them in the upcoming edition of the league.
However, despite all his heroics, the 18-year-old lad remains humble to his roots and wants to refrain from controversies. Time and again, Pakistani cricketers have faced allegations of corruption, and rash behaviour. Recently, opening batsman Sharjeel Khan was handed a five-year ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in PSL spot-fixing scandal. And the youngster has vowed that he would never commit any such thing that would let down his nation.
Shadab was quoted as saying by PakPassion.net, “I always strive to please my Creator. I keep that in my mind and also the fact that at the end of it all, I have to answer to the Almighty. I know that if I become a successful cricketer, there will always be a lot of attractions and opportunities around me which could lead to controversies but I have to make sure that I keep my feet on the ground at all times,” he said.
“My goal is to go about my business and play for Pakistan without any arrogance and false pride. Some have let them down but I can assure Pakistan cricket fans I won’t let them down and break their hearts,” Khan added.
