My finger will not be completely okay ever again: Shakib Al Hasan
Earlier, Shakib was expected to miss the Asia Cup event but eventually played the series.
Bangladesh all-round cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is currently suffering from a finger injury and the same has been detrimental to his career ever since the beginning of this year. The Jessore-born player recently played the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates but had to fly back home prior to Bangladesh’s Super 4 match against Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Team manager Khaled Mahmud said that he had aggravated the injury and had difficulty in holding the willow. Shakib underwent a surgery in which a massive pus had to be operated out. This month, he is scheduled to undergo another surgery in Australia. Recently, he told that his finger is never going to get back in shape, but assured that he’ll continue playing the game.
The infection is my biggest tension
“The main point is how I can cure the infection because my finger will never get back to 100 per cent normal. There is no chance of soft bone getting repaired again, it will not be completely okay, but with surgery, they will put the hand into a shape from where I will be able hold bat and continue playing cricket,” Shakib told the reporters at Dhaka Airport as he left for Australia.
“The infection is my biggest tension. Unless it comes down to zero per cent, no surgeon will put a hand on it. If they do it, it will go into the bone, and if it goes into the bone, the entire hand will be spoilt,” the 31-year-old all-rounder added.
Earlier, Shakib was expected to miss the multi-nation event but eventually played the series. He didn’t quite perform with the bat but prized out some crucial wickets. He picked up a four-wicket-haul in the Group B matches against Afghanistan. The Tigers are next scheduled to play three ODIs and a couple of Tests against Zimbabwe at home, which gets underway on October 21.
