After Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) comprehensive win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 22nd game of IPL 2022, Maheesh Theekshana, the Sri Lankan bowler, grabbed the spotlight after picking up four wickets in his spell. It was a crucial game for the four-time champions, and Theekshana emerged as one of the finest players of the match.
CSK had suffered four consecutive defeats in entering the IPL 2022 and did not have a good start to the tournament. They were looking to get into winning ways, and their efforts finally paid off in the game against RCB. After posting a humungous total of 216, the highest of this season so far, Theekshana’s four-wicket haul helped CSK break RCB’s winning streak.
In CSK’s first win of the tournament, he dismissed the RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Suyash Prabhudessai. In a video shared by the franchise, the 21-year-old talked about his emotions. He was also delighted to pick a wicket of one of his favourite batters, Faf du Plessis. “I felt great to be in the game. Because we lost four consecutive games, I am actually happy that we won our first game and got our first two points.
“We got a huge score on the board. We just went for dot balls and we knew that they were going to attack. We backed ourselves and that’s why we got the results. It was my first IPL wicket, and it was one of my favourite batters (Faf du Plessis). I was told by the coaches and the players that I was going to get wickets today. And I am really happy,” he added.

Combined efforts from the team helped CSK claim their first victory of this season
Talking about the game, CSK were invited to bat first. After a poor start in the powerplay, and even a bit beyond, they were able to put op only 60 runs in the first ten overs for the loss of two wickets. Just when it seemed like RCB had the upper hand in the game, CSK batters Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube fired up with the bat and led the team to a mammoth total of 216/4.
RCB’s middle-order batters tried their best during the chase, but Theekshana and skipper Ravindra Jadeja picked up seven wickets combined to send RCB packing as they claimed their first win of the season.
