Prolific Indian batter and skipper of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) KL Rahul has revealed that his mother was behind the batter to complete his degree during Covid-19 lockdown even though he had made a name for himself as a cricketer at the highest level. Rahul has become an integral part of the Indian cricket team through his consistent performances and will want to emulate his good performance for his IPL franchise LSG.

The 29-year-old batter was born on April 18, 1992 in Mangalore, Karnataka. Rahul completed his education at the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka. To note, Rahul’s father is a professor in the same institute in the department of Civil Engineering.

‘Why don’t you finish your papers and get a degree’: Rahul’s mother to the batter

Rahul, while having a conversation in a talk show ‘Breakfast with Champions’ said, “My mother still gives me s**t for not having a degree. Even during (the) lockdown she said – ‘why don’t you finish your 30 papers? Why don’t you sit down and write it and get a degree?”

“I said ‘Mom what do you want me to do?’. Like I’m playing cricket, doing well for myself, you want me to go write 30 papers? She’s like, ‘Yeah, why not?’” he added.

The 29-year-old also added that his parents were happier when he got a job at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) than when he made his debut for Team India.

“I got a central government job, so they were the happiest. I had played four years for India already, but that didn’t make them happy. This was like – ‘yes, now you will be stable. I’ll just get a good salary. They look after the sports people really well. Can’t ask for more,” said Rahul.

Talking about Rahul in the IPL, he has played a total of 95 matches in which he has amassed 3273 runs at an excellent average of 46.76. The right-hand batter plays at a good strike rate of 136.32.
