Rajasthan Royals star batter Shimron Hetmyer has dubbed his wife Nirvani as his biggest coach, praising her for his enhanced batting temperament and steadiness over the previous few months. He said that his wife urged him to spend extra time on the field while walking out with the bat to start off his innings, and said that this advice helped him tremendously.

Hetmyer, a wayward talent, appeared to be on his way out in the run-up to the IPL 2022 season and was also criticized by his national side as he was questioned about his fitness and temper. Meanwhile, the Royals put their faith in him and bought him for INR 8.50 crore at the mega auction.

Before Rajasthan Royals’ match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday evening, he opened up about the changes made in his game and spoke about his strategies. The 25-year-old mentioned his wife as the person who motivated him to do so.

“It’s about just giving myself the chance. For the first two years I didn’t really give myself a chance to get set. This year and in the last year, I said to myself to give a chance to know what the conditions are doing before getting going. My wife has been my biggest coach and my harshest critic and she told me to give myself a couple of balls to judge what’s happening and then take off,” he said on Star Sports ahead of the game.

I want to learn how to reverse-sweep from Jos Buttler: Shimron Hetmyer

Hetmyer has emerged as a finisher for his side in the IPL this season and has been successful in adding the quick runs. He also revealed that he wishes to learn the reverse sweep from his teammate Jos Buttler. The Englishman is the highest run-scorer in the tournament and has already knocked up three centuries so far.

“I want to learn how to reverse-sweep from Jos Buttler. I am practicing that in the nets but only getting hit. And the scoop also. When I am batting with him, he makes things easier. Thank god I am not a bowler bowling at the Wankhede, it’s a good ground for batters,” Hetmyer added.
