The Mzansi Super League is set to get underway on Friday, November 16 and will continue until Sunday, December 16. The event consists of 32 matches. Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans are set to lock horns in the opening match. A number of prominent names including the likes of Rashid Khan, Jason Roy, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers are set to grace their presence in the tournament.
In the meantime, it has been learned that swashbuckling Windies batsman Gayle has confirmed his participation in the first weekend of the T20 extravaganza as per reports in Sport 24. The left-hander will ply his trade for Jozi Stars, who are scheduled to start their campaign against Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, November 17.
“We are excited to have Chris part of this tournament from the start and he is looking forward to linking up with his Jozi Stars teammates. Seeing the ‘World Boss’ back in South Africa and playing cricket – we and the fans could not have asked for anything better than one of the most popular players that have ever played the game,” Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Thabang Moroe mentioned.
A decent season for Balkh Legends
Gayle might be 39 years old, but he still hasn’t run out of gas by any stretch of the imagination. He, recently, was a part of the Balkh Legends team in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL). The Jamaican ended up as the third-highest run scorer of the event with 315 runs in seven matches at an average of 45 and with four half-centuries to his name.
The veteran withdrew himself from the ODI and T20I series against India in order to take part in the event, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is also expected to play a pivotal role for the Windies in the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. The Caribbean team earlier had to play the qualifiers in Zimbabwe in order to cement their position in the mega event next year.
