N Srinivasan to help BCCI in recovering funds from ICC amid COVID-19 crisis
BCCI has also been looking to sort out the tax exemption of $23 million with the Indian government for hosting the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 on behalf of the ICC.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc across the globe. More than 27 lakh people have been affected by COVID-19 and the numbers are increasing gradually with every passing day. As the entire world has gone into a forced lockdown, there is a huge global economic crisis which is around the corner.
The world of cricket has also got affected due to the global pandemic. There haven’t been any matches across the world for over a month. Most of the cricket boards are struggling to get their funds sorts and most of them have already started cutting wages of their players and staff.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been pushing the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pay up the USD 175 million which they were supposed to receive as per the big three resolution. According to the reports, Former BCCI boss N Srinivasan has been trying to get back the money from the ICC.
N Srinivasan has been talking to the Union Ministers
BCCI has also been looking to sort out the tax exemption of $23 million with the Indian government for hosting the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 on behalf of the ICC. As per the reports by Sportskeeda, N Srinivasan has been talking to some top ministers of the Indian government regarding the entire issue. Srinivasan seems to have sought the help of the Indian government to bring back the money from ICC.
During the Srinivasan’s time at the helm of things at ICC and BCCI, he has designed a big three formula. This would give a substantial advantage to the big three cricket boards, BCCI, Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board. However, ICC has done away with that and BCCI had to agree to this back then. However, the current situation has got every board to look upon BCCI once again for generating revenues.
“The situation is getting reversed and Srinivasan putting pressure on the BCCI means that the battle for money is going to gain some momentum once again. All the boards are looking to BCCI and this is how it is going to be. The BCCI is going to call the shots,” a source said as quoted by Sportskeeda.
The global pandemic has created a situation that if the IPL happens, then slowly all the international cricket series can also resume.
