Ambati Rayudu was dropped from the Indian team ahead of England tour following his inability to clear the yo-yo fitness test. There was a lot of outrage from all the corners of the cricketing world over the same as the cricketer had earned his place back in the side with some scintillating performances in the IPL. Many questioned the transparency of the fitness test and the new entrant in the argument is the former BCCI and ICC Chief N Srinivasan who has expressed his disappointment over Rayudu’s exclusion from the team.
Rayudu was in exceptional form in the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise who eventually went on win the title this season. He opened the innings for the team and also batted at number 4 various times but his batting didn’t affect at all thereby proving that he is flexible. The selectors were also impressed with his prowess and recalled him to the national side albeit in the One-Day Internationals. Unfortunately, his failure to clear the fitness test led to him being axed.
I am very sad
N Srinivasan was not amused with the fact that Ambati Rayudu was not with the team for the three-match ODI series which is set to commence on July 12. While expressing his disappointment he also made it clear that he is not criticising the selection criteria and doesn’t want to be misunderstood.
“I am sad he is not with the team. I don’t think it is my sentiments. Anybody who watched cricket this season would echo alike. But I never comment on selection, so I did not want to be misunderstood. I am disappointed, I am sad. As a cricket lover, I am said he is not in the team. But I did not want it to be a reflection of selection. I never comment on such things,” he was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
Suresh Raina has been named as the replacement for Rayudu in the ODI series who is already in England and is also the part of the T20I squad.
