Najam Sethi to take over as the PCB chief as Shaharyar Khan decides to leave
Sethi is now one of the major figures in the Pakistan Cricket Board and has a say in almost every matter.
Najam Sethi was in charge of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and did his job extremely well. Even amidst all the controversies and issues Pakistan faced, the chief of the PSL managed to carry out the PSL final in Pakistan successfully. More than that he brought International cricket to Pakistan.
He is now one of the major figures in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and has a say in almost every matter. However, he is all set to become the chief of PCB. Shaharyar Khan has no intention to extend his stay as the leader of Pakistan cricket. Shaharyar reasoned his departure from the office as well. Khan ends his term of three years in the August of 2017.
Poor health
He said that he does not want to continue because of his health issues. At the Annual General Meeting of PCB on Wednesday, Sethi’s name came forward and there was no one else opposing it as he is more than capable of doing the job.
According to PTI, Najam Sethi will be honoured with the Pride of Performance award by Pakistan government for his excellent services and massive contributions to Pakistan Cricket. He has worked hard for this and is one of the strongest minds in the Pakistan Cricket Board.
At the AGM, Sethi made some exciting announcements. He said that eight matches will be played in Karachi and Lahore during the third season of the Pakistan Super League with both the cities hosting four games each. He also said that there were about 30 bidders for the sixth franchise in the PSL.
PTI quoted a source saying that Sethi was able to get his resolution passed through the board which means that he is extremely popular among the board members. “Perhaps pre-empting the situation, Sethi managed to get this resolution passed which basically confirms that he is very popular in the cricket board,” he said.
