Narendra Modi hopes Shikhar Dhawan will be back on the field soon
Shikhar Dhawan was diagnosed with a fracture of the first metacarpal on his left hand following a ball impact injury in the game against Australia.
Shikhar Dhawan was hit on the thumb by a Pat Cummins bouncer in the match against Australia in the ongoing World Cup. The southpaw was unsettled with the blow but soon looked comfortable and went on to notch up a match-winning century as India posted a mammoth total of 352 on the board. The Men in Blue won the high-profile but little did they know that their premier batsman will suffer a serious injury.
After the match, it was understood that Dhawan had sustained a hairline fracture in his thumb and was ruled out of the action of the few days. The team management was hopeful of him getting fit in time at least until the game against England. But in the next few days, it was confirmed that the left-hander was ruled out of the tournament and it was a significant blow for Team India.
Shikhar Dhawan was naturally disappointed after not being able to contribute to the team in the World Cup and thanked his teammates and fans for all the support in a video. “I feel emotional to announce that I will no longer be a part of #CWC19. Unfortunately, the thumb won’t recover on time. But the show must go on.. I’m grateful for all the love & support from my team mates, cricket lovers & our entire nation. Jai Hind,” Dhawan captioned the video.
I hope you recover at the earliest
While the whole nation is praying for Shikhar Dhawan’s speedy recovery, even India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi spared time out to console the Indian opener. He admitted the fact that the Indian team will miss Dhawan in the middle and then hoped for him to recover from his injury and come back on the field as soon as possible.
“Dear @SDhawan25, no doubt the pitch will miss you but I hope you recover at the earliest so that you can once again be back on the field and contribute to more wins for the nation,” Modi’s tweet read.
