Pakistan’s national cricket team opener Nasir Jamshed was charged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for illegal indulgence in a spot-fixing incident in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The 27-year-old had violated with articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 of the PCB’s code of conduct. These articles state that a player must cooperate with the board’s investigation in case of a scandal, but reportedly Jamshed was non-cooperative.

In February earlier this year, he was arrested for the charges imposed by the PCB. On the same day, he was bailed by the National Crime Agency (NCA). Reports say that Jamshed was trying to neglect PCB’s investigation procedure. But the cricketer has held the stance that he was always willing to cooperate with the PCB.

“I have no control over what is being said in the media. I have neither changed residences, nor am I hiding from anyone. I am completely ready to cooperate with the PCB. My only request is to let the NCA inquiry being conducted to reach its conclusion first. This is something the PCB had stated itself, when they stopped an FIA inquiry,”

I believe that too. First the NCA inquiry should be completed. The PCB has stated itself that they are in regular contact with the NCA, and are fully aware of the inquiry. Once it ends, I will present myself as and when the PCB requires me to.” said Jamshed.

Other defaulters

Pacer Mohammad Irfan was suspended for a year and was fined PKR 1 million for his direct indulgence with corrupt practices. On Wednesday, PCB handed a two-month ban to left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, who admitted to the charge of failing to report a suspect approach. Nawaz was 7th in the queue. Six others are either banned or going through investigations. In addition to Jamshed, investigations are carried out against Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Sharjeel Khan. Jamshed’s passport has been confiscated by the NCA.

Nasir Jamshed’s claims

The official Twitter handle of the cricketer uploaded a video in the micro-blogging site Twitter. In the video, Jamshed openly challenged PCB to reveal the evidences they have against him in front of the media. He also said PCB is forcing the players to speak against him. He then announced that he is challenging PCB to court over the spot-fixing issue.

“PCB is being unfair with me as they are pressurising players and asking them to testify against me. Rather than maligning my name, I urge PCB to offer the evidence and I challenge them to bring all the evidence in public. There is something called professionalism and with all this my personal life is being affected. I have already consulted my lawyer and we want to challenge this and are willing to take PCB to court over this.” said Nasir in the video.

Audio messages between Khalid Latif and Nasir Jamshed were revealed, confirms ESPNcricinfo. From the conversation it is understood that some bat deal was arranged for a player by another. PCB feels that they were speaking in some code language and instructions were hurled at each other regarding corrupt practice.
