The much-awaited ICC Cricket World Cup is all set to get underway in England next year on May 30. It will be a 10-team event this time around as the matches will be played in the round-robin format. After playing nine matches in the league stage, top four teams will qualify for the semi-final. The title clash will be played at the Home of Cricket as the cricket experts are pondering over the chances of all the teams. Similarly, former England cricketer Nasser Hussain has also named the favourites of the mega event.
Currently, India and England are being tipped to lift the title next year given the way they have been playing in the limited-overs format over the years. Both the teams are facing each other in the United Kingdom in the ongoing three-match ODI series and no wonder the contest between them has been thrilling so far.
Who are the favourites?
England and India played the second ODI of the series at Lord’s on Saturday as the hosts were playing some tough cricket in a bid to stay alive. During the game, one of the commentators raised the possibility of the two teams facing in the World Cup exactly after a year. “We could see these two teams playing the World Cup final next year,” the commentator said.
However, Nasser Hussain was also commentating at the same time termed Pakistan as the favourites to clinch the title in 2019. “Watch Pakistan sneak in and win the World Cup,” he replied to the comment.
Pakistan are certainly one of the hot favourites to win the mega event next year given the fact that they had won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. They have the bowling attack to torment the opposition in any conditions and Sarfraz Ahmed has also led them well in the last few years.
