Australian spinner Nathan Lyon reckons that his mate Mitchell Johnson could be persuaded into making a comeback to the side in the grand scheme of things. At the moment, the Australians might have their bowling firepower well and truly sorted out with Starc and Hazelwood, but should he make his way back, it would be a nice thing to have an experienced player in the dressing room as well.

Playing for the Perth Scorchers in the side, the 35-year old Mitchell Johnson has impressed quite a bit with some tremendous bowling. He is also famously known for the 2013 edition of the Ashes series wherein he simply decimated the English batsmen almost single-handedly.

Lyon, who is currently playing for the Australian side as perhaps the most prominent spinner has gone on to state that it would not be the worst thing to recall Johnson into the grand scheme of things in spite of the fact that it would most certainly be a long shot.

“It’s not the worst shout,” Lyon told the Unplayable Podcast when asked if he could see Johnson returning to the national setup for February’s three-match T20 international series against Sri Lanka.

He also went on to add that it was good to see one of his best mates back to playing in the domestic level at least. “I know Mitch probably won’t want to do it. I’m sure if he got asked to come out of retirement he might consider it. He’s a world-class superstar. He’s one of my very good mates and it’s good to see him back playing.”

“And on the other hand, the younger guys, if they can see and learn off the older guys who have played the game so well for Australia, then Cricket Australia is heading in the right direction I believe.”
