Nathan Lyon warns England batters against a fired up attack in the Ashes

This year’s Ashes tour is certainly going to be a big challenge and a test for the Joe Root-led England team. Presently, they are without their star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who has been a key member of the side in all the formats. England’s chances of retaining the Urn will depend a lot on their experienced batters, former Test captain Alastair Cook and Root. On the other hand, the Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon has already warned the visitors to be prepared to face a fiery bowling attack down under.

Lyon said that the English batting line-up will have to deal with one of the best fast bowling attacks which is constituted by the likes of Mitchell Starc, Patt Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. The off-spinner warned the English batters that these fast bowlers can also end careers with their energetic ability and pace. He also stated that both Starc and Cummins are quicker than former Aussie fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, who laid the England batsman in the Ashes 2013-14.

Starc and Cummins are faster and Hazlewood is the best

The premier spinner revealed that the bowling trio have the ability and pace to end careers of batters all around the world. He admitted that even the Aussie skipper Steve Smith was finding it hard to tackle these fast bowlers in the nets. Lyon also pointed out the fact that the visitors would surely not see him as a major threat when compared to the fast bowlers.

“They are [faster than Johnson] in the nets, definitely. I saw Steve Smith land on his backside the other day, Johnson didn’t do that. To have two guys bowling that fast, I know I’m not getting in the nets to face them because they are bowling way too quick for my liking. They are class bowlers but the best bowler in the world is Josh Hazlewood,” said Lyon talking to the media ahead of 1st Test at Gabba on 23rd November.

He also admitted that the English batters would surely not see him as a major threat when compared to the fast bowling trio. “Ask Joe Root. He definitely does. It’s part of the game being a tiny little off-spinner who bowls at 86ks an hour, not 150. I love being the underdog,” he added.

They can end careers

He also said that all the three, Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood are pretty capable to end careers like Mitchell Johnson who was good at it and had a piece of many English batters in the previous Ashes series down under.

“I hope so. I didn’t end any careers. Mitchell Johnson ended them. If you ask him he’ll say it was quite satisfying if you look at his past, the pressures the English put him under with the Barmy Army and everything,” said the 30-year old spinner.

“I know Root got dropped last time when he was here, so it’d be good to get him dropped again wouldn’t it? If we can start by opening up that crack, it’s pretty crucial. There’s a lot of scars for the English guys, especially coming over here, especially when we have two guys bowling 150ks not just one now,” he concluded.
