Navdeep Saini dedicates RCB's thrilling Super Over victory to coronavirus warriors and 'Shaheed' Bhagat Singh
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers bought RCB an easy victory from the Super Over.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) saw their second victory of the season when they clinched the match against Mumbai Indian in a Super Over thriller. The IPL 2020 has been into just ten matches and the tournament witnessed a second Super Over as both teams stood at 201 at the end of their innings.
Three half-centuries from Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, and AB de Villers bolstered the RCB side to touch the 200-run mark on the board. Chasing the hefty target, MI openers flopped and stumbled at 78/4 before the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took over.
The thunderous batting by the duo fetched 119 runs in 51 balls for their side. Their unmatchable efforts brought MI just next to the victory before the match landed into the Super Over. Kishan added 99 off 58 while Pollard added 60 off 24 in the team’s total.
Navdeep Saini conceded just 7 runs in the Super Over
However, the Super Over introduced the fans to the world-class ‘over’ delivered by Navdeep Saini to restrict opponents on just seven runs. In due course time, he also dismissed Hardik Pandya to shake the opposite side. As the total was not a big one, Kohli and De Villiers bought home a convincing victory.
Saini was definitely the star for his side, and he turned up to dedicate this significant victory to all the COVID-19 warriors and freedom fighter, ‘Shaheed’ Bhagat Singh. Notably, it was Bhagat Singh’s 113th birth anniversary on September 28. Saini tweeted from his account– “This win is dedicated to Corona warriors & Shaheed Bhagat Singh JI”
This compassionate gesture from the RCB youngster became the talk of the town. The RCB has already been up in their initiative to sport practice jerseys that have a message thanking corona warriors. They even decided to don special jerseys that display the name of some of the warriors on them. Furthermore, the players also decided to change their name to that of warriors on the Twitter handle.
The RCB are now walking in style with two victories in their three outings in IPL 2020 so far. However, skipper Virat Kohli is yet to show his game with the bat this season as he struggled again to fetch some runs for his side.
