Former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan is in the middle of a dream run in his political career. The General Elections in Pakistan was conducted back on July 25 and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan’s party, won by brushing aside Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML). A total of 372 seats were up for grabs out of which PTI became the party with the most number of votes.

Earlier, as per the country’s election commission, they couldn’t garner a majority of 172 seats required to form a government. However, recently, the party claimed to have crossed the figure for securing a majority in the National Assembly. Khan was also crowned as the Honourable Prime Minister of the nation and his oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 18.

Sidhu confirmed to travel

A number of eminent personalities will grace their presence on the auspicious occasion. Recently, Navjot Sidhu, a former Indian cricketer and Imran’s counterpart during his playing days, confirmed his visit to the country. It has also been learned that the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued a visa to the 54-year-old to attend the ceremony as per reports in pakistantoday.com.pk.

After getting the formal invitation, he had applied for the visa. Thereafter he visited the Pakistan High Commission where he was granted the same and is slated to arrive on August 17. Previously, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar were also invited, but they won’t be travelling to Pakistan. Moreover, renowned Bollywood actor Amir Khan declined the invitation.

Khan retired from international cricket after Pakistan’s triumph in the 1992 World Cup in Down Under after which he formed his party in 1996. He kept on going from strength to strength and never looked back ever since. He also wielded his magic on the cricket field and played international cricket for a whopping 21 years after making his debut back in 1971.
