Navjot Singh Sidhu has a special gift for Imran Khan
He landed in Pakistan on Friday.
The former Indian cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu landed in Pakistan on Friday for the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf had three Indian cricketers for the event which also included Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar who couldn’t make it due to prior engagements. However, Sidhu kept his word and has gifted his friend Imran a Kashmiri Shawl as he stepped into the new world of politics.
The 54-year-old had openly accepted the invitation even before a formal communication arrived and termed himself as ‘goodwill ambassador of India’. Soon after landing in Lahore at Wagah border, he cleared that he had come to take part in the happiness of his friend. Meanwhile, Imran has taken the oath as the Prime Minister of his country as the much-awaited ceremony took place on Saturday.
Hindustan jeevay, Pakistan jeevay
Navjot Singh Sidhu was clearly excited to meet Imran Khan soon after landing on Pakistan soil and said he had brought a message of love to Pakistan. He also informed that he has a brought a Kashmiri Shawl for the former Pakistan captain. “I have come here not as a politician but as a friend. I have brought a Kashmiri shawl for Khan sahib,” he was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Sidhu also chanted “Hindustan jeevay, Pakistan jeevay,” while reading a verse which he reportedly wrote much before stepping in Pakistan. He remembered the former India Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away and went on to say that even he wanted peace between the two neighbouring countries.
As far as Imran is concerned, the former cricketer was effusive in his praise and said, “I have seen Khan converting his weaknesses into his strength. I wish Imran becomes a symbol of prosperity (for his country).”
