The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru is considered as the top training center for cricketers in the country. However, in the last few days, there has been a lot of debate over the efficiency of the institution. Several reports have surfaced the media which have suggested that the senior players are reluctant to go to the academy.
Many feel that the NCA has deviated from its practices and the players reckon that the fitness tests at the center no longer add value to their cricketing skills. Furthermore, the recent back injury of Bhuvneshwar Kumar has brought the institution under the scanner for their practices to handle the injuries of the player. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not the only major Indian cricketer who has got injured in the recent times.
India’s preferred Test wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has also been recovering from an injury for about a month now. In the crossfire of this episode, the physio of NCA, Ashish Kaushik has come under the scrutiny now. The blame game has continued with several officials of the BCCI raising a point against Kaushik.
Misuse of position?
As per the reports in Cricbuzz, they have alleged that Kaushik has been outsourcing all medical diagnosis of players to a healthcare company of which he was a director around the time he joined BCCI last July. It is worth noting that the physician Dr. Srikanth Narayanswamy, who advised ultrasound injection for Saha is also associated with the same healthcare clinic.
“The likes of Jayant Yadav, Axar Patel, Krunal Pandya have all been treated at the same clinic last year. Kaushik may not be a director there anymore but he keeps sending the players there,” a BCCI official told TOI.
“There are senior doctors in Mumbai who specialize in sports medicine and have treated senior India cricketers before. Kaushik used to work under them. Saha was eventually sent to the renowned doctor. Why wasn’t he sent there in the first place?” the official asked further.
