NCA to conduct camp for spinners
If sources are to be believed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and National Cricket Academy (NCA) will conduct a camp for the spinners next week. this is after a long gap that BCCI is organising such a camp for the spinners.
BCCI has conducted the camp for fast bowlers three years back where 20 bowlers participated. However, nothing has been done for the spinners in years now. Ex-India leg-spinner and NCA’s head spin coach Narendra Hirwani will be in charge of this camp.
“This was long due. Around 18-20 spinners across the country will participate in this camp. We have shortlisted these spinners with an eye on future. Our past president Shashank Manohar had said in his vision document that he wants a good bench strength in the spin department. Now, our current president (Anurag Thakur) is taking his work forward,” sources in BCCI told TOI.

The spinners will participate in batches and will spend time with Hirwani.
“We have divided all the spinners in 4-5 batches. Four to five spinners will be part of a batch. They will spend time with Hirwani for four-five days, depending how he feels about them. It would be easy for him to work on 4-5 spinners at a time. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja won’t be part of the camp. It’s for the upcoming spinners,” he said.
Narendra Hirwani is best remembered for his 16 wicket haul on his Test debut against West Indies in Chennai. The leg-spinner has played a big role in reinvigorating the National Cricket Academy. He has been the spin bowling coach at the NCA since 2015.
