The Netherlands will be locking horns with the West Indies in the first One Day International at the VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on May 31. Both teams will be heading into this series with hope of revival in fortunes in their respective performances in the 50-over format. Wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran will be leading the West Indies having succeeded the iconic all-rounder Kieron Pollard who announced his international retirement last month.
Both the Dutch and the West Indies have lost each of their last five ODI matches and would be hoping to get back to winning ways in the upcoming three-match series. The Pieter Seelaar-led side suffered whitewashes against Afghanistan in the three ODI series in January and suffered the same fate against New Zealand in March-April.
Coincidentally, even the Caribbeans head into this One Day series on the back of two straight series losses. The first one came against Ireland at home 1-2 before being whitewashed in an away three-match series against India in February.

Pitch Report
The match will be played at the VRA Cricket Ground after a long time and both teams would be unaware of the pitch conditions. While chasing on this wicket is considered to be a good option since this is a fresh wicket, both sides would rather be hoping to put runs on the board and transfer the pressure on the opposition in the second innings provided the total is in excess of 250. Therefore, the captain winning the toss will bat first.

Probable Top Performers
Probable best batter of the match
Nicholas Pooran:
A lot will be expected from the newly-appointed West Indies captain on the 22 yards. Nicholas Pooran is a seasoned player for the Men In Maroon having amassed 1121 runs at an average of 40.03 in 37 ODIs. The southpaw scored his last half-century way back in July 2021 and now, he would be hoping to rediscover his rhythm in the format. In fact, it has been seven innings since Pooran scored his last 50.
Akeal Hosein:
Akeal Hosein will definitely ask some tough questions of the opposition batters with his left-arm spin. The 29-year-old has picked 22 wickets in 14 ODI appearances. He has the ability to provide vital breakthroughs in the middle overs and has been in the West Indies team management’s scheme of things in white-ball cricket for a while. The emerging spinner would be eager to create a good impression in the three-match series.
Today’s Match Prediction: West Indies to win the match.
