The West Indies tour of the Netherlands. which comprises three ODIs, starts on May 31. All three games will be hosted by the VRA Ground in Amstelveen. As Kieron Pollard announced his retirement, West Indies team will now be led by Nicholas Pooran.
The West Indies have had a dismal run in the ODI format in recent times. The last time they played an ODI series was against India, in February, when they faced a thrashing defeat as India won the series 3-0. Before facing India, West Indies had played against Ireland in January and had lost that contest as well, losing 1-2.
The host team, led by Pieter Seelaar, is not in great form either. Their recent ODI stint was against New Zealand in March, which they lost 3-0. They met Afghanistan for a three-match ODI series in January this year and lost that 0-3 as well.
Both the West Indies and the Netherlands have lost their past five One-Day International matches and will be hoping for a turnaround when they meet. However, the visitors should be able to rely on players like skipper Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd, who are fresh after the IPL 2022.
Pitch and conditions
The match will be hosted by the VRA Ground in Amstelveen. The Netherlands hasn’t played at the ground since 2018, and thus both teams will be unfamiliar with the pitch conditions. Both sides would want to put runs on the board and get a good total because on a new surface.
