'Need a lift?' - KXIP boast about Chris Gayle's records, SRH remind them why David Warner is better
Warner has won the Orange Cap three times, in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In 2016, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad to a title win against Royal Challengers in the final.
With the Indian Premier League postponed till April 15 due to the spread of the coronavirus, the banter between franchises doesn’t seem to stop. On Thursday, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad engaged a funny banter on Twitter. The two teams defended their star openers.
Australian David Warner, who is the skipper of SRH, was in question while KXIP defended their star opener from West Indies, Chris Gayle. It all started with Star Sports posting a question on Twitter. The post was meant to open the debate of who is the more destructive between Warner and Gayle.
The tweet read, “Power hitting is a part of @davidwarner31 and @henrygayle’s. But which one do you think is the more destructive #VIVOIPL opener? Convince us of your pick below, NOW.”
King XI Punjab backed their overseas star Chris Gayle. The franchise responded from its official Twitter handle. The reply pointed out how Gayle holds the record for the most number of centuries in the tournament. The post also highlighted some other records which the left-hand batsman from Jamaica holds.
“One of them has the most no. of IPL centuries, the highest-ever score in IPL, a strike rate of over 150, the fastest-ever century in IPL history and the most sixes in the competition to his name. I think we know who our pick is!” the tweet said referring to the Caribbean star.
Gayle scored 175 runs in an IPL match in 2013, which is still the record for the highest individual score in the IPL. During this innings, he also scored the fastest 100 in IPL off just 30 balls. He has scored six IPL centuries, most by any player in the league’s history.
SRH remind KXIP that David Warner has more IPL trophies than Chris Gayle
Sunrisers Hyderabad was quick to respond to this tweet as they highlighted the achievements of their skipper. The tweet from the official page of SRH replied saying that Warner has won the orange cap three times, more than any other player. It also reminded of the fact that the Australia batsman also has an IPL trophy to his credit. “3 x Orange Caps, 1 x IPL Trophy, Need a lift, @lionsdenkxip?” The tweet also had a picture of Warner picking up Gayle in his arms during an old match.
Warner has won the Orange Cap three times, in 2015,2017 and 2018. In 2016, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad to a title win against Royal Challengers in the final. Chris Gayle, interestingly, was a part of RCB back then. The West Indian batsman hasn’t had the luck of winning an IPL trophy so far. He has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab so far and never won a trophy.
