OTT streaming platform Voot Select in collaboration with renowned director Neeraj Pandey announced their upcoming project named Bandon Mein Tha Dum, a documentary, on the Indian cricket team’s historic victory against Australia in the 2020/21 Test series away from home, which releases on June 16. Pandey is best known for his biopic on Indian cricketing legend MS Dhoni, and the upcoming series is expected to create a similar environment.
The series will shed light on the emotions of the Indian and Australian players and members of the teams as they played and witnessed history being scripted. The Indian team won the Test series 2-1 and claimed the Border-Gavaskar trophy with their victory at the Gabba in Brisbane, after coming over all obstacles. The director felt that the series that brought smiles to the fans’ faces during the struggling period of the Covid-19 pandemic should be showcased in an even better way.
“The human stories in this cricketing fairy tale elevated the series beyond a cricketing audience and created huge euphoria across all segments of the Indian society. The nation was gripped and it was therefore befitting for us to bring the story to the people of India of one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports and cricket,” Pandey was quoted by Republic World.
Nothing excited me more than retelling this story which went beyond high-quality cricket: Pandey
The documentary features Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Mohammad Siraj in behind the scene clippings, among many other cricketers from both the sides. Even the coaches and journalists, who were a part of the historic series will be seen in Pandey’s work.
“Nothing excited me more than retelling this story which went beyond high-quality cricket, hard work, perseverance, determination, commitment, sportsmanship, and decoding the x-factor through the mind of the players which repeated the David Vs Goliath story,” Pandey added.
The incredible turnaround tale of the Indian team going from being bowled out for 36 to winning a series in Australia with half of their squad injured would be remembered and quoted for years. Eighteen months after that magnificent day, Pandey revealed that he will chronicle all aspects of this win, which has been one of the finest series wins for the Indian Test team.
