Neil Wagner eager to don ODI colors for New Zealand

New Zealand speedster Neil Wagner has been one of the consistent performers for the national side in the longest format of the game. He is a regular face in the Kiwi Test squads. Wagner has featured in 32 Tests for his team but is yet to make his debut for the national side in the shortest format of the game. Now, he finally might get his opportunity when the Kiwis tour Ireland for the tri-series.

The Tri-series will feature Bangladesh as the third team apart from New Zealand and hosts Ireland. He has been named in the squad and is likely to get a game on the tour. As per the recent quotes in Cricbuzz, Neil Wagner talked about the various prospects of his game. He remarked that he has been trying different things to fit into the scheme of things for his side.

“I have worked hard the last few times on consistency and skills and change-ups and a few different deliveries. The nature of the game is that you have to be able to adapt to different wickets and different types of batters around the world. Have worked on a few change-ups, trying to nail death bowling and stuff like that and a few variations as well. It’s quite an exciting part of the game to be able to do some different stuff and working with the white ball and all,” he quoted.

Speaking about the opportunity that beckons him in Ireland, Neil Wagner expressed that he would be happy to contribute in some or the other way if he gets a chance in the series. “It’s refreshing in a sense. It’s quite nice to do something different again, different skills. It just freshens things up a little bit. It’s quite exciting to be able to play the role if I get a chance to contribute in some sort of way,” quoted the speedster.

He also pointed out that he has not been out of action all these days. He has played a few county games this season and has handy experience of playing one-day fixtures as well. “Obviously got a couple of county games under the belt, played some four-day games and some one-day matches for a while which has been quite beneficial before the one-day tournament, so great to hit the ground running,” conceded Wagner.
