The Under-19 Nepal Women’s team was bowled out for only eight runs against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Asia Qualifier of the ICC U19 T20 Women’s World Cup on June 4 (Saturday) at the UKM-YSD Cricket Oval, Bangi in Malaysia. While Sneha Mahara top-scored with three runs for Nepal, six batters departed without scoring. UAE bowler Mahika Gaur ended with figures of 5/2 runs in four overs.
Earlier in the match, Nepal won the toss and chose to bat first. They lost their first four wickets inside the first three overs for only two runs. Batters Anjali Bishowkarma, Sana Praveen, Shristi Jaisi, Kritika Marasini, R Shrestha and AK Yadav couldn’t even open their accounts. Kiran Kunwari Kunwar, AP Magar and A Kadayat, scored one run apiece. M Rana, with two runs, was the second-highest scorer. UAE chased down the total in the second over without losing a wicket.
Mahika Gaur and Indhuja Nandakumar ran the show for the UAE.
Right arm off-spinner Gaur tore apart the Nepal batting line-up, bowling 22 dot balls, picking up five wickets and conceding only two runs in four overs. She was well complemented by Indhuja Nandakumar, who bowled 19 dot balls, conceded only six runs and picked up three wickets. Samaira Dharnidharka got the wicket of number nine batter Yadav with the only ball that she bowled. Kadayat, at number ten, was run out. The Nepal innings ended in only the ninth over.
UAE opening batters, Theertha Satish and Lavanya Keny were unbeaten, scoring four and three respectively. The scores were level just after the first over of the second innings and the target was chased down in the very next ball. There were no sixes or fours scored across both the innings of the game. This match would definitely go into the record books for a number of things related to the first innings; Nepal’s total being one of them.
Nepal won against Qatar by 79 runs in their previous game on June 3 (Friday). They bowled out Qatar for only 38. Magar top-scored for Nepal with 32 runs and Jaisi finished with bowling figures of 3/5 in four overs.
