'Never doubt those players who have won games for you in the past' - Mohammad Amir raises questions on Pakistan's tackling of players
Mohammad Amir hits back at Pakistan management for how it is treating players.
Never known to mince his words, left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has once again shared his views about the way hardworking and talented players in the Pakistan cricket team are being treated by the management. The former cricketer believes that the focus should be on players’ potential to win matches and on their abilities rather than statistics.
Amir, a bright prospect in the team, made a comeback in the year 2015 after he was found guilty with spot-fixing charges. He went on to represent Pakistan in 147 matches across formats before calling it quits in the year 2021. The 29-year-old has picked 259 wickets and was tipped to lead the Pakistan’s pace attack for the next three to five years. Sadly, it was not to be as Amir shocked the cricketing fraternity by stating that he is not willing to play anymore, at the young age of 29. Apparently, he was not happy about the current team management under Misbah-ul-Haq.
In a recent interview on the YouTube channel ‘Cricwick’ he expressed his displeasure about the management in Pakistan team.
Mohammad Amir on how players should be treated by the management
“Never doubt those players who have won games for you in the past. Never doubt their ability due to statistics. Rather than focusing too much on statistics, you must see whether the player has the ability to win games for Pakistan from difficult situations. When a player is in a bad phase, that is when the team management and fans need to back him the most,” Mohammad Amir said.
The left-arm pacer also shared his views, on how the Indian team management handled Jasprit Bumrah when the pacer was a bit off-color last year.
“When a player doesn’t perform even after getting ample chances, the management must tell the player to go back to domestic cricket and perform so that he could make a comeback into the national team. But here (in Pakistan) they say his career is over, he is not good enough anymore.”
Recently Amir shared the news of having applied for British citizenship, quashing all possible options for a change in heart to play for Pakistan again. It will be interesting to see whether he plays for England in near future.
