Indian team started the UK tour by defeating Ireland 2-0 in the T20I series. They next travelled to England for a three-match T20I series against England, where they won 2-1. But, things didn’t go as per plan in the ODI series as they lost it 1-2. The players looked confident coming into the Test series but Anderson and co. had other plans as they defeated the visitors in both the Tests taking 2-0 lead.
Much was expected from the Indian team in the Test series with Indian pacers in good form. But, it was Sam Curran’s Test who single-handedly drove England home with both bat and ball at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The story is totally different at Lord’s as the Indian faced the heavy drubbing by innings and 159 runs.
Team India now has nothing but to win the third Test which will start from August 18 at Trent Bridge. They will be boosted with Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback as he is available for selection after he is deemed fully fit for the upcoming Test. It will be a big headache for Kohli on who to pick and who to axe from the XI.
Skipper’s message
After the Lord’s debacle, Virat Kohli lost his No. 1 Test rank in the ICC Test rankings as he scored just 40 runs in the game. The former Aussie skipper Steve Smith is back to the top position with Kohli taking the No. 2 slot. The Indian skipper took to Facebook to post an inspirational message for the Indian cricket fans and he promised that his team will do better in the next outing. He also added that his team wants the fans support at this dire stage.
His message read, “Sometimes we win and other times we learn. You never give up on us and we promise to never give up on you either. Onwards and upwards.”
