Never giving up is my theory: Yuvraj Singh

After registering one of the most outstanding knocks of his international career, Yuvraj Singh brought out his candid self while addressing the media, post the 2nd ODI victory against England at Cuttack. The flamboyant left-handed batsman had a go at the England bowlers, scoring his career-best 150 off 127 balls, which included 3 sixes and 21 boundaries.

Yuvraj came into bat with the hosts in all sorts of trouble (25/3), after being restricted by Chris Woakes’ triple strike. He along with MS Dhoni forged a partnership of 256 runs for the fourth wicket.

“I came back after recovering from cancer, the first 2-3 years were very hard,” Yuvraj Singh said in the post-match press conference as quoted by TOI. “I had to work hard on my fitness and I was in and out of the team. I was not able to get a permanent spot. There was a time when I was wondering whether to continue or not to continue. Never giving up is my theory. I knew time will change. I don’t think about who’s reacting to what nor do I read newspapers. I don’t watch TV too. I try to focus on my game and prove a point to myself that I’m still good enough for international cricket” he added.

Yuvraj was making a comeback into the ODI side after three years. He missed out on scoring big in the first game, after being dismissed by England all-rounder Ben Stokes for 15. This was Yuvraj’s 14th ODI century and his first post the 2011 world cup. The southpaw was in good touch, coming into this series, as he scored an entertaining knock of 56 runs against the visiting England side during one of the practice games at Mumbai.

Both the teams will now head towards Kolkata for the third and final ODI, with India having taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series.
