Never said anything negative about Navdeep Saini: Bishen Singh Bedi responds to Gautam Gambhir’s scathing tweet
Bedi didn't miss out on the chance of praising Saini though.
Navdeep Saini made his T20I debut against the Windies in Florida and clinched the Player of the Match award. The Indian speedster got the wickets of Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer and Kieron Pollard. Such was his domination that he bowled a wicket-maiden in the last over of the Caribbean innings. The incredible spell of bowling impressed Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian batsman.
Gambhir lauded the Delhi fast bowler after the latter picked up two wickets in his very first over. Moreover, the 37-year-old launched a scathing attack on DDCA’s Bishen Bedi and Chetan Chauhan, saying that their ‘middle stumps are gone’ seeing Saini’s decent debut at Lauderhill. Gambhir has backed the youngster for a long time and Saini has been grateful towards Gautam as well.
Previously, when Saini was selected for the T20I series, Gambhir lashed out at Bedi and Chauhan. After Gambhir’s outburst, Bedi has opened up on the matter and was clear cut in saying that he doesn’t feel the need to react to Gambhir’s stern words. Bedi also said that he has nothing against Saini and felt that the bowler broke into the national team purely on his own potential with the ball.
Who am I? I wasn’t in any position of DDCA
“I don’t believe that I have to stoop to conquer. I would rather not react to any comments on Twitter. I have never said a negative thing about Navdeep Saini. Also, I believe if someone has made it, it’s his credit, not any Tom, Dick or Harry’s,” Bedi was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
Bedi said that he never questioned Saini’s merit and he took a jibe at Gambhir, who is a first-time MP from East Delhi. “Who am I? I wasn’t in any position of DDCA. I see that he (Gambhir) hasn’t sobered even after becoming a Member of Parliament,” Bedi stated.
Bedi didn’t miss out on lauding Saini though but asked all to wait for a bit as the pacer has only played a solitary match for India. “The kid is outstanding. But I have only seen him on TV. Also, he has just played one game for India. We should wait for some more time,” he added.
Chauhan also opined on Gambhir’s harsh words and asked him to not ‘belittle’ others for ‘glorifying himself’. “Rule approved by Delhi Cricket Association was a 1-year cooling period for players from other states. There was no question of talent n ability in his case. Don’t try n belittle others n glorify self,” Chauhan reckoned.
