'Never thought I would see my city like this' - Sourav Ganguly amid lockdown in West Bengal due to Coronavirus

The global pandemic of Coronavirus has forced Indian cities to be left deserted. Due to the outbreak of the deadly virus, the Indian government has urged its citizen to not go out in the open for the next two weeks. Cities have been under lockdown until March 31. Due to the growing threat of the Coronavirus, the city of Kolkata was also locked down on Tuesday.

The lockdown which was originally supposed to be till March 27 has now been extended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee till March 31st. In the wake of all this, the Prince of Kolkata and the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, took to Twitter to express his extreme sadness of the situation.

Sourav Ganguly urges everyone to stay safe

On Tuesday, the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly posted a tweet in which he expressed how he never thought he would see his city like this. He urged everybody to stay safe as he believes things will soon change for the better. He also uploaded four pictures along with the post.

The pictures that he uploaded contained sights of empty roads in Kolkata. The places in the picture are quite popular and hardly ever empty. The caption of the tweet read, “Never thought would see my city like this .. stay safe .. this will change soon for the better…love and affection to all..”

Sourav Ganguly has been working from home since Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to shut its office in the wake of the COVID-19 threat. He has been spending some quality time at home and had recently shared a post on Instagram stating that he is enjoying his free time.

The BCCI President is likely to address the media in few days time as the whole nation awaits a call on the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ganguly had talked about the possibility of having a shorter version of the IPL due to lack of time. However, a BCCI official recently revealed the BCCI is planning to have the entire tournament if things get better and they can start it by the first week of May. Sourav is also likely to attend a conference call organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss the current and future state of cricket at the world stage.
