New Indian coach to be named before Lanka Tour by BCCI
We will announce the name of the coach before Team India's tour to Sri Lanka: Shukla
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced that the new Indian Coach would be named before the commencement of Sri Lankan tour. The announcement was made by Rajiv Shukla who is a senior official of the board. The position of the Head Coach has been vacant since Anil Kumble resigned as the coach of the Indian Team.
India currently does not have any one as the head coach of Indian Team. Sanjay Bangar has presently taken over the helms for the ongoing tour of the West Indies. The decision came in the aftermath of Anil Kumble’s resignation from the Indian team post-India’s campaign in the Champions Trophy.
BCCI has appointed CAC( Cricket Advisory Committee) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. Venkatesh Prasad, Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Phil Simmons, Ravi Shastri, and Virender Sehwag are the names who have applied for the coveted position in the Indian Cricket team. Ravi Shastri has had a strong backing from Indian captain Virat Kohli for the job. He had a wonderful stint with the Indian Team when he was the Team Director.
Shukla on Anil Kumble
“It was Anil Kumble’s decision not to continue as coach of Team India. We will announce the name of the coach before Team India’s tour to Sri Lanka,” commented Rajiv Shukla, head of BCCI Special Committee, according to catchnews. BCCI invited fresh applications and the deadline was extended to July 9.Team India is scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I against Sri Lanka. The Test series will start from July 26 and continue till August 16.
Virender Sehwag is the one name which Amitabh Choudhury has been backing due to the former’s cordial relationship with the latter. He is also the Director of Cricketing Operation of the Kings XI Punjab franchise.
