The city of Bengaluru is all set to be made over for the cricketing fans in the city with a proposal for a new stadium to be constructed in Bommanahalli. While the M Chinnaswamy Stadium will still be functional, the new establishment will serve as an international sports complex with a cricket stadium included in the plans for construction.

This plan will also solve a major crisis brewing in and around that area since the site for construction has been a garbage dump for a few years. Also, another important factor that may play a role in the development of this novel facility will be the finances released for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative by the Union Government of India.

The Union Government has handed Bengaluru City Rs. 41.45 crores for their Swachh Bharat Project. The construction of this facility will cost in and around the range of Rs. 1.9 crores.

Reports suggest that Bommanahalli Corporator, Rajmohan Raju has already gone about hiring a Delhi-based firm for the construction of the Sports Complex. “The action plan for the project is yet to be drawn,” said Raju.

Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner (solid waste management), said the area was currently a garbage dump. The local people had raised the issue of their health being at risk. And so, it should not only be cleaned but also have a playground and pathways.

The sports complex will also have a gymnastics facility. “I would like to see more gymnasts from Bengaluru city. I want to see the project completed in 20 months after it takes off. It should launch on October 2, the day when PM launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” said the corporator.

However, the concern at the moment would be the cricketing facility provided in the new sports complex. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium and the National Cricket Academy have been the pillars of the Indian Cricket team’s progress for many a year now. Although the RSI grounds also boast of international repute, the sports complex could be something novel in terms of cricket and sports science.
