Fraser Wilson, the captain of the Otago County cricket team in the New Zealand domestic circuit went on to bat for two hours without scoring a single run. Wilson was battling against Southland in an eliminator in the Hawk Zone Cup. This would, however, prove to be a vain effort as Southland would go ahead and clinch a victory.
Playing on a terrible batting pitch in the Alexandra cricket ground, Wilson made his way out to bat when the score was at 6/99. The target was 345 runs, something that was quite clearly not a chaseable score. However, at the close, it was Otago that was dismissed for 141 with just three deliveries to spare. The captain put on a 23-over stand with No. 9 Tom Myles (28 of 68) that brought the side 30 runs and frustrated the Southland attack.
Wilson batted for 126 minutes without scoring a single run and being absolutely and completely solid in defense. The skipper stood tall before being cleaned up by Kurt Thompson as the eventful match eventually came to an end with just the three deliveries to spare. Mark Knox was the last wicket to fall at the close of play.
