New Zealand flaunt their new T20I kits ahead of the Australia series
The new look New Zealand jerseys take a leaf out of their 1999 look.
New Zealand will be travelling to neighbour Australia for a series of 3 Tests and 3 ODIs in a highly anticipated series. New Zealand are ranked no.2 in the ICC Test rankings and are coming off a home series win over England, while Australia demolished a lacklustre Pakistani team by an innings margin on both of the Tests.
The Kane Williamson led side is also slated to host the Australian team for a T20I series at home in March of 2020 and for this special occasion, both the teams decided to go retro with their uniforms for the upcoming encounters next year. New Zealand’s retro kit was leaked via Instagram post of Black Caps featuring Martin Guptill in October this year and it goes with their look in the late 1990s.
New Zealand goes retro and brings something new
The new look New Zealand jerseys take a leaf out of their 1999 look which was seen during the India tour that year in the one-day series. It is a mix of teal and black colour with a big white fern leave dividing it in the middle. The teal colour had given way to all-black look in 2001 and since then the Kiwis have stuck to the black jersey with some minor tweaks to them.
However, this time, the Kiwis have gone all out in designing the retro look which is bound to take the fans of the game down the memory lane. Cricket district posted images of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee in the new look with the caption, “Thoughts on the @blackcapsnz T20 kit? 😍 #AUSvNZ #cricket”
Meanwhile, Australia will also reveal a new look jersey in the series which is inspired by their 1999 ICC World Cup-winning design. They recently wore a retro look jersey against India in the ODI series down under, and keeping the same vein, had asked the fans which of the design should be brought back for the T20 team and the 1999 World Cup design won which has the shooting stars coming out in the centre with a vibrant yellow colour giving it a great look.
