New Zealand heavyweights all set to scour Pakistan for talent

Ever since the inception of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Pakistan has been churning out exciting cricketing talent and it’s been getting the deserved limelight. With big shots like Mitchell Johnson and Chris Lynn being touted as possible participants in the third edition of the PSL, the league is climbing up the rungs of the ladder and getting attention from all over the globe. Recently, New Zealand heavyweights Grant Elliott and Danny Morrison flew to Lahore in order to dig up new talent in the nation.

While Elliott has been one of the premier batting all-rounders for his nation, Kiwi commentator, Morrison is a household name, especially after his regular stints in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both of them landed at Lahore on Tuesday to be a part of a talent hunt program for young cricketing aspirants. The Jazz Rising Stars talent hunt program is an initiative by the PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars.

Elliott and Morrison laud the talent hunt initiative

Speaking to the press, Elliott lauded the initiative by saying, “I think this is one of the greatest initiative, I have been involved in, everyone is excited. I mean this is something that given back to cricket.” The 38-year old was supported in his views by Lahore Qalandars Director of Cricket, Aqib Javed and Morrison. Interestingly, Elliott himself is a member of the Lahore squad.

PSL 3 is only looking to get bigger as it has reportedly roped in top-notch players such as Imran Tahir and JP Duminy for the season, along with Australian stars like Lynn and Johnson. Elliott further showered praise on one particular find of Jazz Rising Stars talent hunt, Yasir Jan. “Who could have thought we would have found Yasir Jan, someone who can bowl with both arms, I mean next year we can find a batsman who can bat left hand right hand,” he said.
