New Zealand completed a 2-0 series win against the visiting Windies team after defeating them by a huge 240-run margin in the 2nd match of the series. After the home side took a 152-run first innings lead, Ross Taylor’s record hundred helped them to extend their lead to 443 runs before the declaration. The touring side ended their 2nd innings 241-run short of the target in Kraigg Brathwaite’s maiden International match as a skipper. Their new Test cricketer Sunil Ambris continued to have an interesting Test career as was dismissed via hit-wicket yet again and injured his wrist to be retired hurt in the 2nd innings.

Here are all the stats and numbers from New Zealand’s yet another huge win:

2Sunil Ambris became the first player to be dismissed via hit-wicket twice in first two Test matches of career. He is only the 2nd player after Bill Ponsford to be dismissed via hit-wicket twice in three Test innings. Ponsford got out hit-wicket in consecutive Test innings in 1934.

5 – New Zealand’s first innings was only the fifth for them where ten batsmen made double-digit scores in a Test inning. The last of the previous four instances was in the 2nd innings against Australia of the 2016 Wellington Test.

7 – Kieron Powell became the 7th Windies opener to record a pair in Test cricket. Rajendra Chandrika was the last of them when he faced Australia in 2015 while Chris Gayle bagged pair twice while opening in this format.

17Ross Taylor’s second innings hundred was his 17th in Test cricket. With this century, Taylor equalled New Zealand’s record of 17 Test tons held by Martin Crowe and Kane Williamson.

37 – Number of wickets fell to the bowlers in this Test match. These are the most number of wickets fell in a Test match on New Zealand soil, not including a 5-wicket haul. 35 wickets shared between the bowlers of both the teams in 1995 New Zealand-South Africa Test in Auckland and 2011 New Zealand-Pakistan Test in Wellington without any bowler registering a 5-fer.

200Trent Boult became the 6th New Zealand bowler to bag 200 wickets in Test cricket. He need only 52 Test matches for the milestone, the 2nd fewest among the six Kiwi players. Richard Hadlee needed only 44 Test matches for taking 200 Test wickets.

2006 – Last time before Ambris a West Indian got retired hurt and didn’t return to bat in a Test innings was back in 2006. Ramnaresh Sarwan retired after getting injured during the Karachi Test against Pakistan in 2006.
