A Neil Wagner special:

9/73 – Neil Wagner registered bowling figures of 9/73 in this game coming in as third change for the Kiwis. He picked up 4/28 in the first innings and 5/43 in the 2nd. He thus became the first pacer to claim nine or more wickets in a Test match after coming to bowl as third change or later.

England’s left-arm pacer Dick Barlow had figures of 8/63 in the 1886 Manchester Test against Australia while bowling as third change. He and Wagner are the only pacers with eight or more wickets in a Test match coming to bowl as late as 3rd change.

England’s left-arm bowler Frank Woolley had figures of 9/124 also in a Test match at Basin Reserve in 1930 while coming as third change or later. However, Woolley reportedly bowled both pace and spin during that game.

2004 – The last instance of any bowler bagging nine or more wickets in a Test match after coming to bowl as third change or later was way back in 2004. Upal Chandana finished with figures of 10/210 during the 2004 Cairns Test against Australia where he was Sri Lanka’s third change bowler.

Taylor and Williamson add records to their name:

3 – Ross Taylor is only the 3rd New Zealand player to score three Test double centuries. Brendon McCullum scored four double tons while Stephen Fleming also has three 200s in this format.
