18/4 – Only the 2nd time India have won an ODI after losing their first four wickets for less than 20 runs on the board. India defeated Zimbabwe in the 1983 CWC game having been reduced to 9/4.

18/4 – They lost their 4th wicket at the score of 18; the 3rd lowest for any team while batting first in an ODI that they won. India won the contest after losing the four wickets for nine runs against Zimbabwe in 1983 while Australia bounced back from 15/4 against the Windies in the 1996 CWC semis.

252 – Only the 2nd time India have finished with a total of 250+ in an ODI despite losing their first four wickets for less than 20. India recovered from 9/4 during the 1983 World Cup game against Zimbabwe to post 266/8.

252 – The total of 252 is the 2nd lowest that India successfully defended against New Zealand in their backyard. The lowest is 222 in the 1990 ODI in Basin Reserve which India won by a 1-run margin. India has won only six out of 20 ODIs while batting first against the Kiwis in New Zealand.

Rohit’s streak comes to an end:

10 – Rohit Sharma’s record streak of scoring a century in most consecutive ODI series came to an end with this series. He had scored centuries in 10 consecutive ODI series/tournaments since the start of Champions Trophy 2017. The previous best streak was of six series by Virat Kohli in 2011-2012.

Rohit has a century in 8 consecutive bilateral ODI series which is also the longest for any player. Hashim Amla in 2013-2015 and Virat Kohli in 2015-2017 had six consecutive series with a hundred.

Another hat-trick for Pandya:

4 – Hardik Pandya hit three consecutive sixes off Todd Astle in this game; the 4th instance for him in ODI cricket. Previously, Pandya hit a hat-trick of sixes against Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Adam Zampa; all in 2017.

Spin to win for India:

19 – Number of wickets Indian spinners claimed in this ODI; the 2nd most by any team’s spinners in a bilateral ODI series in New Zealand. Zimbabwe spinners bagged 20 spinners during the 5-match ODI series in 1998.

No centuries:

93 – Ross Taylor’s 93 in the 3rd ODI is the highest individual score in this ODI series. This is the 2nd lowest highest individual score in an ODI series/tournament of five or more matches involving India. The 1996 Sahara Friendship Cup between India and Pakistan had the highest individual score of 90.

2010 – For the first time since 2011, New Zealand failed to record an individual century in an ODI series/tournament where they played five or more matches. The last such series was the 5-match 2010 series also against India in India.

2013 – The last instance when India failed to register an individual hundred in an ODI series/tournament of five or more games was in 2013 home ODI series against England. Ambati Rayudu’s 90 in the final ODI is the highest individual score from the team in this series.
